Captain Farrell Ref Sheet

Description

Oh Captain Farrell, you are my favorite. And here is what the public needs to know about you...

Farrell shares a birthday with William Shakespeare, April 23.

Farrell works as captain of a Cruise and Cargo (C-and-C) ship called the "Ascension" and working for the CorrupCo company. Despite doing little more than shipping cargo and sometimes passengers from world to world, Farrell has somehow retained the romantic view of the universe that nearly everyone has about their dream job before they get it. The reason for this is simple. Farrell originally was an English major, and his love of stories gave him a strange outlook on life. In Farrell's world, everyone has a role to play, be it Hero, Sidekick, Villain, or whatever.

He sees himself as a Hero, and until recently he viewed Phena as a Sidekick (she's now blossoming into a hero). He also has what I like to call "Hero Syndrome," meaning he wants to help everyone. He can become so involved in the problems of those around him and trying to save his friends and family that he doesn't take care of himself.

He is in his mid-30s, and he's about 6'6". He's fast and agile, and can hold his own in fisticuffs or a barfight. He does have some sense of chivalry, but if he's provoked, he'll hit a lady. He flirts, he sometimes has a discreet quick fling, but he never gets into relationships. Part of that may be his habit of accidentally insulting people, trying to save everyone, and generally because he doesn't stay in one place very long.

Farrell does not like people to see his softer side. He folds origami, and he's quite good, but he hides all of his work. It's a shame, because they're beautiful.

As I said before, Farrell is a hero. He sometimes says things that you swear came out of Captain Kirk or Buck Rogers. They might have, for all most people know these days. Things like, "Hey, don't hit her! She's a lady, you have to ask her to dinner first!" And he poses, sometimes consciously but mostly not.

If you have the delightful task of trying to write him, (it is hard, I know, but soooo worth it) think of him as a cross between Tim Allen in the first part of Galaxy Quest and Captain Kirk (TOS, not the reboot). That might make your life easier.

He's not the type to pull a gun on someone under normal circumstances, but he's got a big beautiful ray blaster, with a full range of light and sound barrage capabilities. Basically, it can stun, injure, or kill someone depending on the charge, but the stronger the blast the longer it takes to recharge. If he shoots on 3/4 power more than six or seven times, the thing is pretty much useless.

Because he works with a telepath and a telempath on a regular basis (five and three years, respectively), he has a strong resistance to most telepaths. To Phena and Sarrekket, he's highly susceptible, but that is mainly because they know each other so well. He is not completely immune from telepathy, but his mind is not easily read or influenced.

Oh yes, Farrell doesn't much care for whiskey. Don't drink it near him. Most other alcohol is fine, just not whiskey. (It's a terrible joke, I'm sorry.)

For the record (because I saw this on someone else's ref sheet and it seemed a good idea) I'd prefer neither Farrell nor Phena get killed during this contest. Beaten to within an inch of his life, go ahead. Just not completely gone.
